Rib Stitch

So i managed to watch a few more videos and get rib stitch sorted out, I only did a small cast of six stitch to start with and here is the finished article.
It is hard to really tell that it is right but it is, the ribs are in there. It was a simple mistake as I said earlier, I was not taking the yarn from the the back for knit to the front for purl, that was it.

So yeah now it is time to begin project one, this being a phone sock. I am going to use red and blue wool and try and focus on tension throughout the making of it.

Also I will be sewing it up at the end, although I have done a fair amount of sewing before this will be the first time in wool. We shall see how it all goes soon.

Changing my stripes

Changing my stripes.
So number two was all about changing the colour of my rows, the eagle eyed of you will be able to see many more mistakes in this set as compared to my first go at garter stitch. This is because I was trying to introduce rib stitch into the mix and I kept getting it wrong so I kept picking it out and then re attempting to complete the row, this just made a hash of the whole thing and then ended with me getting very frustrated and stopping knitting. Which actually was the best thing I could do, as this forced me to find more rib and purl videos on the web to try and get this stitch nailed down.
So the changing of colour is easy and I think I can make it loads neater too. Again with this I have kinda developed a curve to the knit, this I will put down to tension I guess, the cast on edge at the bottom is much shorter than the cast off edge at the top, so this must be down to tension in my stitches.

Up next Rib stitch nailed.

Number 1

So here we go photo time.

1) So this is my first attempt (ever) at knitting. It was not supposed to be round, however it was not really supposed to be anything but garter stitch. I started by casting on about 40 times (this was too many, yet I was practising the action.) Then I moved on to doing the basic knit stitch for four rows and then decreased for a row. This is why it has the curve to it, then I cast off each stitch, not too sure I got the last cast off right but hey it seemed to work. Then to stop it from flapping about I tied the two ends together.

So this is number one.

Project Breakdown

Well, after a few more videos on you tube, I have mastered the rib stitch, the mistake I was making was a very simple one (I appreciate it is a simple stitch however this is day two of my knitting experience.) I was not moving the yarn to the back for the knit and then to the front for the purl. This does mean I am about ready to start my first project. YAY

Right ok for those of you that are reading this, Project number one will be a phone sock, project two (the original reason for learning to knit) is a Kindle sock, the same as a phone sock just bigger, for this I would like to learn how to cable too, project three will be a laptop sleeve I think, by this point I should be a bit better at colour changing and creating patterns, so i will be working on a ying yang design for this.

As soon as I work out how to upload photos onto this blog I shall show you my first few attempts and talk you through what I have managed and learnt.
Thanks

Beginknit

So this is m,y first every blog post.
So to the point I guess, I have started to knit, this is so I can create a kindle cover that is to my own specification.
So far i am finding the knit stitch ok however purl stitch seems to be doing something wrong to my stitches. So far I have been trying to learn from videos on you tube and other such video link sites.

Well I don't really actually expect any one to read this but hey I guess it's nice to have a place to put my thoughts down.
So if any of you out there do read this account of my life work and knitting please feel free to comment and hint at what I might be doing wrong or right for that matter. so who knows what i might put in here.

thank you all or none.
